Would You Look At That...

May 2018.
The last time I added a post to this site. In all honesty, I'm shite at managing social media. Utter shite. My Facebook author page will go weeks without a peep, then I'll rattle out post after post. Twitter is a place I hang out in for days at a time then flee from, utterly confused by the way the feed works. Instagram. Instagram I post a lot on, but how much is writing related? 2%? I'd say the majority of the followers that I engage in don't even know I write (says in the bio, but who reads that? My Amazon sales figures suggest few).
This website, the site I pay ~£130 a year for has gathered dust for 20 months.
I'll never make it like this. What have I done with my time?

Well, I've written a lot. I've written a lot and not let folks know about it. Foolish. I released The Crystal Keep in March 2019, ~65k words after four drafts. I've also penned numerous short stories of Marigold's that are awaiting a "Lost Tales" book. I've even written 103k words of The Vile Realm, and am now steadily working through draft two. Quite a lot, really.

I've spent a lot of time in the hills, carting about pounds upon pounds of photography equipment in the hope that others will take a shine to what I've seen. I've been all over Scotland. Since my last encounter with this website I discovered Glen Lyon. Glen Lyon is not only my favourite place in Scotland, it is also where I have seen my only Golden Eagle. I've taken a solo holiday to Skye, climbed Ben Lawers in snow, done a charity night-time walk up Ben Lomond, smashed Stob Binnein in 30°c, traversed Stank Glen from Ben Ledi in -20°c winds, bezzed up The Cobbler, been up Ben A'an five times, eaten lunch with a raven on Ben Venue, finally entered the Hidden Valley, burnt to a crisp on Ben Vrackie, driven North Scotland for 30hrs straight... That's enough commas, though the list wasn't exhaustive.

Of course, none of this includes watching my daughter grow up and start to take interest in the hills and forests of Scotland.
So, I've wasted a fair bit of money keeping this site alive, but I'm here now. I genuinely forget how easy it is to update this site, I don't really have that much of an excuse for neglecting it.
Consider it updated now! New links, a trailer for The Vile Realm, some words...
Will I be back? I'd like to think so. Certainly I would aim to not leave the site alone for a full cycle of payment. I'm a busy man, but I do have a lot to learn about social media and retaining an audience. For those of you that have followed me across the Internet, have read (or even reviewed my books), you have my undying gratitude. That sounds insincere, but I assure it is the real thing.
Till the next time.
